The cycling network for everyday

Bavarian cycling network

The everday cycle connection between Bavaria’s towns and municipalities

Cycling networks consist of cycle connections that are used for everyday life or recreational purposes. The connections can be on dedicated cycle paths, cycle highways or protective lanes, for example, or also on forest or farm tracks. In any case, a continuous and connecting network structure is a prerequisite for the use of  bicycles in everyday life and for recreational purposes.

In Bavaria, a state-wide everyday cycle network is to be created, connecting all Bavarian towns and municipalities as directly and consistently as possible (Bavarian cycle network).

The Free State of Bavaria is designing and realising this network together with the local authorities. The network will be visible locally via directional signage. This superordinate everyday cycle network is to be further consolidated at local authority level. The Free State of Bavaria will support the districts, towns and municipalities in this endeavour.

In a first implementation step, the State Ministry of Housing, Building and Transport has developed a draft for the ‘Bavarian Cycling Network’ and coordinated it with the districts, independent cities and the state building authorities.

On the basis of this harmonised draft, a pilot survey of the network, i.e. an on-site inspection, was carried out in a selected district as a subsquent inspection step. The results serve as the basis for decisions on how to proceed with the local inspections.
