What is Bavaria doing for cycling?

Cycling for every day

Cycling plays a major role in the daily mobility of people in Bavaria: for short to medium distances, it is usually the fastest, most cost-effective, and most efficient mode of transport. It offers a climate-friendly, healthy alternative to private motorized transport and plays a central role in the transition to sustainable mobility. The bicycle is often the best choice for commuting to work or the train station—free from traffic jams and parking hassles. There is also potential in delivery services, where cargo bikes are particularly attractive for the “last mile.” Ultimately, increased cycling in Bavaria means a better quality of life in both cities and rural areas.

Promoting cycling is therefore a key priority of Bavarian transport policy. Thanks in particular to the „RadoffensiveKlimaland Bayern“ launched by Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder in July 2021, the Bavarian Cycling Act (which came into force in 2023), and various funding programs, the Free State has established an excellent foundation for the targeted expansion of cycling infrastructure in collaboration with municipalities, cities, and districts.
